DIY Blackberry Pepper Jelly

Style + DIY

One year my family and I were at the beach and we stepped into a Pepper Palace to try out some of the salsas. If you know me, you know how much I love anything to do with Mexican food.  While in the store we came across a jar of strawberry pepper jelly.  They had samples mixed with cream cheese, so of course we tried it.  Oh my, I was hooked at first bite!!! The spicy and sweet mixed with the creamy goodness of cream cheese. I couldn’t say no! So we grabbed a jar of strawberry and a jar of blueberry and headed straight to the grocery store to get some cream cheese. Those jars were gone by the end of our trip!

Not long after that particular trip a friend of mine had given me a whole box of jalapeno and habanero peppers from her garden.  I thought to myself, now what can I do with all of these peppers? Of course, hot pepper jelly! I also had a bag of frozen blackberries she had given me from a while back in my freezer.  What better thing to do than to combine the two for a spicy, sweet treat!

The ingredients I use are:

  • About 10 finely chopped jalapeno peppers
  • About 5 finely chopped habanero peppers
  • 3 finely chopped green bell peppers
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Ball pectin
  • 4 cups of blackberries
  • 5 cups of sugar

First thing you want to do is boil some hot water with your jars and lids inside and then set them aside to dry.

You will want to chop all of your peppers up as finely as you can because you won’t want a bunch of chunky peppers in your jelly.

Next you can go ahead and put your berries in the blender and crush them up and set them aside.

Put all of your chopped peppers and vinegar in a pot and bring to a boil, adding in gradually your pectin.

Next take a strainer and set it on top of the pot and pour in all of your crushed berries into it. Take a spoon and smash the berries until all that’s left in the strainer is mostly the seeds from the berries.

Next pour in all of the sugar, stir, and let the mixture come to a boil.

You will then take your jars and fill them with the mixture, being sure to wipe the sides and rims clean before setting the jar lid on top. Do this with all of your jars and put them into the boiling water to process for about 15 minutes.  Then set the jars out to settle overnight.

These jars make great holiday gifts for the family! Take them along to Thanksgiving or give them as gifts at Christmas! Make sure you let them know how wonderful it tastes with some cream cheese on top of a cracker! YUM!!

Cute Cat & Jack Baby Outfit: What Dreams Are Made Of

Motherhood + Life, Style + DIY

I was cleaning out my purse the other day and came across the coupons I had gotten with all of the goodies when I had signed up for my Target baby registry.  I had “misplaced” them in my purse since I now carry around a diaper bag the majority of the time.  I was that mom at first that tried to carry her purse and the diaper bag….. yea gave that up right away.  However, on the days I go to the office without Laikynn I tend to take my purse.  So again, I found this coupon for 20% a Cat and Jack outfit from Target.

So, off to Target I go….. I was looking at all of the Cat and Jack outfits and found she had most of them. I was debating getting a duplicate at a larger size, but then I came across this magical outfit.  I couldn’t contain my joy as I grabbed it off the rack and showed Corinne ( who is my Target partner in crime).  She gave me the “oh yea” look and I put it in the Cart.  I mean I was getting 20% off and all, it was quite the bargain.

This outfit is an adorable one piece made of sparkly sweater like material.  To add to the magical sparkles, the hood is complete with a mane, ears, and yes…. A Unicorn horn. UGH! My heart.  I  mean this thing is adorable.

I put Laikynn in her Unicorn outfit, and let me say… She makes one adorable Unicorn.

A Little Magic Monday Kindness: Operation Christmas Child

Acts of Kindness, Happiness + Gratitude

It’s Magic Kindness Monday again, where Corinne and I do a random act of kindness to hopefully inspire you, our readers, in some way to spread a little kindness yourself.  Your act doesn’t have to be big to go a long way.

This week we have donated to Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan’s Purse.  This was another week where we could get the kids involved in helping another child in need.  We took them to Target where they were able to pick out a few toys and gifts to place in the shoe box.  It’s amazing to see the joy in a child’s eyes when they know they are helping a little one such as themselves.

With these boxes you can choose if you will be giving to a boy or girl and in the age ranges of 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.  Our boxes were filled for one special little girl 5-9 and a special little boy 2-4.  Operation Christmas Child is a foundation that we like to donate to every year around this time.  Our Church always participates as a drop off facility. We get the boxes from them and then return them on the week designated.  This happens to be the week for the boxes to be returned so you may still have some time if you would like to get involved.  There is a map on the website here that can show you where the drop off locations are.  The only things you need to help is a shoe box and to print off a label off of their website. You can either enclose a $9 check or pay online when you print the label off. By paying online you can also track your box to see where it goes.

Samaritans purse is a nondenominational Christian organization that helps people around the world in impoverished countries. Whether it be from natural disaster, poverty, disease, or war times they come in to make the lives of the people a little more bearable. Like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) they believe it is God’s desire for us to help those in need whenever we come across them.

We at Kindness Curated commend Samaritan’s Purse for all that they do to help those in need.  We enjoy the fact that we can be a part of this with Operation Christmas Child’s shoe box donation.

5 Scriptures to Turn to when dealing with Anxiety and Stress.

Motherhood + Life

So this post is where I’m going to go a little out of my comfort zone and open up to you all about the one thing that I struggle with regularly.  Anxiety. Some go through life carefree without a worry in the world, and then there are others of us that have this unwelcome guest in our heads that worries us on a daily basis. For me I have always struggled with anxiety when it came to certain things. Making up the worst-case scenarios in my head, and allowing people who have hurt me in some sort of way consume my thoughts for the whole day.  When motherhood set in these anxieties amplified quite a bit. This my friends is when I decided that I cannot let anxiety run my life. I refuse to let my daughter feel my anxiety and have the cycle repeat itself with her.

How you ask? The only way of course; give it all over to God.  I pray for peace every day.  I read scripture and daily devotion and this allows me to reach a calm that really helps me relax and feel at peace.  Here are five of my favorite scriptures to turn to when I’m feeling the least bit anxious.  Hopefully you can find peace in these readings as well.

This one I absolutely love! I was struggling with a situation that was causing me some pretty severe anxiety.  I was walking through a store when I came across this decorative plate that literally had this scripture written on it. As I read the scripture, I was in awe that the Lord is so powerful to send this to me in the exact moment that I had needed it most.  God is good! This verse literally says do not be anxious about anything, give it all over to the Lord and you shall feel peace.

Some days we just feel like we have so much on our plates. Not always physically like work or chores, but also emotionally. It gets exhausting carrying around so much on our minds that we can wear ourselves out. This is never good as we want to set great examples for our children and be there for them emotionally as well as physically.  This verse literally tells you if you are tired, give it all over to God.

The lord is there for you when you have these moments in life where it seems like there is no hope. Turn to him when you are feeling anxious and worried and seek in him the comfort you are looking for.

The thing is the Lord already knows what plans he has in store for us. So when we are worried and anxious we are the ones standing in the way of our own destiny.  We just need to pray and give our worries up to the Lord so that the plans he has in place for us can come to pass. Seek him in your darkest moments and find peace.

Always remember that the Lord our God is the almighty and can endure all things. Our anxieties are so small compared to the wonderful things he can do for us if we just let him.

What are some of your favorite scriptures you turn to when you’re feeling anxious?

DIY: Gratitude Tree

Happiness + Gratitude, Style + DIY

We are almost halfway through our gratitude challenge and it’s been a lot of fun! I’m glad to see so many of you on our social media accounts joining in! Be sure to check out our facebook and IG to see what’s going on!

On theme with our gratitude challenge we made a gratitude tree, to keep track of all the things we are grateful for! We put a little twist on ours though! On one side of the wood slice is written what we are grateful for and on the other side is a motivational message!

I’m going to be honest here, although I LOVED the idea, I wasn’t thrilled with the final product (at first!). However, when my three year old Parker’s eyes lit up and he fell in love with our new tree, I knew it was going to stay. For someone reason, when he looked at it the way he did, I was able to see it in a different light. That’s kind of how changing your perception works. You can look at something (a negative situation) one way but if you just change the way your looking at it, you can see it through new eyes and realize all of the wonderful things about it!

Now I couldn’t imagine walking into my kitchen without our gratitude tree! Pictures don’t do it justice, at all! It fills the space with so much love and joy, it almost radiates! And I believe it’s all the wonderful energy behind it and all the love that was put into making it.

To make your own gratitude tree you’ll need:

  1. A vase (ours was from my wedding but here’s a similar one)
  2. Gathered twigs
  3. Chalkboard paint
  4. Vase filler (rocks or sand work)
  5. Chalk pen
  6. Twine
  7. Stickers (optional)
  8. Small Wood Slices

Take your vase and fill it up with your filler half way, then arrange your twigs (make sure they are strong enough for your wood slices to hang! I’ve found the closet together your arrange the twigs the better, kind of in a bundle in the middle of the vase. Then fill the rest of the way with your rocks or sand to hold the twigs in place.

Next prepare your wood slices, paint or spray your chalkboard paint on. It’s optional but to make them perfectly round use a stencil. After they are dry, drill a small hole in the top and string through your twine to make your ornament.

Next write what you are grateful for on one side and if you want, place your sticker on the back. Hang your ornaments and voila! You have yourself a gratitude tree that will keep you motivated!

By putting your tree somewhere you will see it often, your more likely to feel grateful multiple times through out the day! It’s a great reminder! It’s like when I see it I can help but feel happy😊
